Derek Vineyard is paroled after serving 3 years in prison for killing two thugs who tried to break into/steal his truck. Through his brother, Danny Vineyard's narration, we learn that before going to prison, Derek was a skinhead and the leader of a violent white supremacist gang that committed acts of racial crime throughout L.A. and his actions greatly influenced Danny. Reformed and fresh out of prison, Derek severs contact with the gang and becomes determined to keep Danny from going down the same violent path as he did.
This is not the way, brother.
We are not born with hate.
Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all the time.
Every action has consequences.
Hate is a prison. You can leave it behind.
I learned too late.
Hate is baggage. It’s not worth it.
Make the most of your life, Danny.
Not everything is black and white.
You wanna do what you gotta do, but make sure it’s for the right reasons.
Violence only leads to more violence.
Nobody’s ever gone through what we have.
My brother was killed with his own hatred.
We are responsible for our choices.
You have to take responsibility for your own actions.
Sins of the father are visited on the son.
You’re not stupid, Danny. You’re just a kid.
If you come at me, you better be ready for what I'm gonna bring!
We are products of our environment.
If you want to see hate, look at yourself.
I've done terrible things.
I don't want that life for you, Danny.
You trusted me, and I let you down.
We were as close as two brothers could be.
You have to do the right thing, even when people don't understand.
He changed. I could see it in his eyes.
Sometimes you just wanna belong.
Our actions determine who we are.
He was a great brother.
You men do NOT get it!
We'll never be friends, but I respect you.
From my point of view, he was always the hero.
Nothing in this world would have made me stop.
It's not too late for you.
We are not enemies, but friends.
Has anything you've done made your life better?
That anger, it’s gonna consume you too.
It's never too late to change.
Someone always has to pay for your sins.
You don't know the world you stepped into.
Hate blinds you, brother.
Life's too short to be pissed off all the time.
People look at me and see my brother.
There was a moment, I lost myself.
I’m through with all that, man. I changed.
Things change. People change.
Who you hate will end up destroying you.
